Thomas G. Faust

Thomas G. Faust, 83, of Shillington, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2020, in his residence surrounded by his loved ones.

He was the husband of the late Lucy J. (Lachina) Faust who passed away on November 2, 2012. They celebrated 53 years of marriage together.

Tom, a son of the late Theodore and Evelyn (Seavers) Faust, was born in Reading. He is survived by his three children: Camille A. Faust, Shillington; Thomas A. Faust, Wyomissing; and Elizabeth A. Stanislawczyk, wife of Peter, Mohnton; eight grandchildren: Elizabeth (Stock) Lewis (wife of Derek), Gordon Stock (husband of Nicolette), Benjamin Stock, Daniel Faust, Nathan Faust, Andrew Stanislawczyk, Hannah Stanislawczyk, and Sophia Stanislawczyk; and three great-grandsons: Barret Stock, Baylor Stock and Oliver Lewis; a sister, Anne Betz (widow of Cliff) and a brother, David Faust; a sister-in-law Nancy Kerr; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Theodore Faust, Jr. Tom leaves behind his sweetheart, Laura Sander, with whom he resided.

A proud graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1955, Tom lettered in three varsity sports, football, basketball and track. Awarded the Philadelphia Catholic School Outstanding Track Award, Tom ran the 440 in the Penn Relays in 1955. He attended Albright College where he was a member of ZOE (Zeta Omega Epsilon), and went on to become the successful business owner of T. G. Faust, Inc., a major manufacturer of body armor and protective apparel for law enforcement and military personnel throughout the world.

His love of basketball began at the Olivet Boys Club, Mulberry Street Club #4, where he played for teams coached by Danny Trout. He played basketball throughout his life at 11th & Pike Playground, West Reading, and other Reading area basketball courts and played center for Faust Fibers. Anyone who played against him knew of his mean right elbow. He was a member of the Berks Basketball Old-Timers and always looked forward to their shindigs.

Tom's life was filled with great experiences and loving family and friends. Tom travelled all over the world for business and pleasure, including enjoying many cruises with Lucy; he proudly cheered on his children and grandchildren at their many sporting events; he was a devout Notre Dame and Green Bay Packers fan, and was a good sport when being forced to wear a Penn State shirt at the PSU Notre Dame White Out games; and he attended all the Army Navy football games while Gordon was a cadet.

While playing basketball was his love, golfing was his passion. He was a caddie at the Reading Country Club in the 1950's where he first mastered the game, and finally got a hole-in-one at Galen Hall, Hole # 15 in 2016. His patience allowed him to be the ultimate putter. He took many golf trips with his buddies, but his favorite trip was attending the Masters in Augusta.

Tom was an avid gardener who never had a weed in his gardens or yard, a great dancer and a master storyteller who regaled his friends with great tales, some with facts, most embellished with fiction. Tom, Laura and the Rat Pack celebrated many good times at the YR Club where he was an active member and served as Treasurer.

While dementia robbed Tom of his memory and speech, it never took away his smile for which he will always be remembered. Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius Loyola Church, St. Albans Dr, Reading.
