Theresa M. Burkot

Theresa "Tess" M. Burkot, 94, formerly of West Lawn, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023, in the care of Phoebe Berks. She was the widow of Sidney A. Burkot, who passed away on April 28, 2008.

Born in Philipsburg, NJ, to the late James and Catherine (Horvath) Hegedus, Tess graduated from Philipsburg High School.

She was a loving and devoted wife and mother. Tess was involved with the swimming community in Berks County over many years with her husband and three children. She was an avid tennis player with her circle of friends. She played Bridge with her card club. She enjoyed trips to the casino and taking cruises. Tess also enjoyed sewing and painting, especially scenery. She will be missed.

A devoted Catholic, she was a member of St. Ignatius of Loyola Roman Catholic Church.

Left to treasure her memory are her children: Cynthia M., wife of Lynn E. Schaeffer, Bernville; Sidney A., Jr., husband of Mary Jo Burkot, Bishopville, MD; and Bridget T. Burkot, companion of Bernie, Mechanicsville, VA; ten grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 5, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Gethsemane Mausoleum's Chapel of Resurrection, 3139 Kutztown Rd, Reading PA 19605, with entombment to follow.
