Theodore Aiello

Theodore "Ted" Aiello, 89, of Spring Twp., died June 25, 2010 in Reading Hospital.

His wife, Pauline J. (Bianca) Aiello, died November 13, 2006. They were married for 60 years.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Guiseppe and Maria (Di Natale) Aiello.

He was a seven year veteran of both the Coast Guard and Army, serving during WWII. He was on a secret mission with the first military radar that was located at Curacao. There was also a radar set up on Aruba, and between both islands they sank 300 of the 400 German subs that were along the eastern coasts. When the war in Europe finally ended, he held the post as head cook for the military at the signing of the Peace Treaty in Reims, France.

After the war, he went to work for Textile Machine Works as a machinist, set up man, leader, and loyally helped the Thun brothers as a braintrust for 37 years retiring in 1981. He was also a real estate agent for over 30 years, last working for Fry Associates.

He is survived by one son, Barry T., husband of Cecelia M. Aiello, with whom Ted resided. He was predeceased by one son, Robert A. Aiello. Other survivors include, one granddaughter, April, wife of Dennis King and two great-grandchidren Noah and Nathaniel King. Ted was predeceased by six siblings, Catherine, Filamena, Frances, Samuel, Anthony and Thomas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Resurrection at Gethsemane Cemetery, with entombment to follow. Friends may call Wednesday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Contributions may be made to: American Cancer Society, 498 Bellevue Avenue, Reading, PA 19605.
