Theodora U. Longenecker, 87, died August 2, 2011 in The Highlands at Wyomissing. Her husband Dr. Benjamin E. Longenecker, Jr., died February 25, 2011; they were married on May 29, 1948.

Born in Philadelphia, the daughter of the late Kurt and Theodora (Fischer) Uelzmann, she graduated from Port Washington High School, Long Island, New York in 1941. In 1945, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Cornell University, where she was also a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. Later, she earned her Medical Records Librarian Certification from the University of Pennsylvania.

Theodora was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church, Wyomissing, and a former member of Epiphany Lutheran Church, Temple, where she served on several committees. Over the years she was an active member of the Reading Area Panhellenic, American Association of University Women, and the Women's Auxiliary to the Berks County Medical Society.

Survivors include three children, Kristen L., wife of Peter N. Zacharias, Wyomissing; David U. Longenecker, Boulder, CO and Kevin E. Longenecker, husband of Karen (Feryo) Longenecker, Muhlenberg Township; and six grandchildren, Peter K. Zacharias, husband of Shaena (Doherty) Zacharias, Haverford, PA; David Zacharias, husband of Ruth (Cavanaugh) Zacharias, Boca Raton, FL; Caitlin Zacharias, Philadelphia; Lauren Longenecker, Whitehall, PA; and Kathryn and Elise Longenecker, Muhlenberg Township. A sister, Hildegard U. Wilson, preceded her in death.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 13 at 10 a.m. in Atonement Lutheran Church, 5 Wyomissing Boulevard, Wyomissing. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Reading Musical Foundation, P.O. Box 14835, Reading, PA 19612. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is in charge of arrangements.
