Thelma V. Yelles

Thelma V. Yelles, 93 of Hamburg died June 15, 2016 in the Laurel Center, Tilden Township. She was the widow of Augustus W. Yelles who died March 27, 1981. Thelma was born in Schuylkill Haven and was the daughter of the late John and May L. (Leiby) Yoder. She was a 1940 graduate of Hamburg High School and an active member of the First United Church of Christ, Hamburg. She worked as the Cafeteria Manager of the Hamburg State Street Elementary School for 19 years retiring in 1990. Thelma was a charter member of the Hamburg Junior Women's Club and a past member of the Hamburg B.P.W. and a former Den Mother for Cub Scout Pack #120. She enjoyed baking for her family and friends. Thelma is survived by her son, Bruce A. husband of Sharon C. (Ross) Yelles, Hamburg, daughter, Brenda M. wife of David W. Burkey, Hamburg, two grandchildren, Courtney wife of Thomas Link, and Kyle Burkey, both of Hamburg. Three brothers, Theodore, Charles and Neil Yoder, predeceased Thelma. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 18th at 11:00 AM from the First United Church of Christ, 76 S. 3rd Street, Hamburg, PA. 19526. A viewing will be held at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the church at the above address.
