The Rev. Martin L. Bupp, II, (77), passed away on April 22, 2015 at The Highlands, Wyomissing, PA.
He was the husband of Gale Umstead Bupp. They recently celebrated 55 years of marriage.
Rev. Bupp was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Lansdale, PA.
Born May 26, 1937 in York, PA, he was the son of Martin Luther Bupp and Hazel (Becker) Bupp.
He was a graduate of York High School, Catawba College (Magna Cum Laude), and Yale Divinity School (Master of Divinity).
Rev. Bupp was ordained into the United Church of Christ on June 24, 1962. He was then called to serve Grace-Daniel's Charge in Lincolnton, North Carolina from July, 1962 – October, 1964. On October 18, 1964, he was installed at St. John's UCC, Lansdale, PA, where he served five years as the Associate Pastor. He was then called to First Congregational Church in Westfield, MA from October, 1969 - September, 1972. In September, 1972, he became pastor to two churches, St. Paul's UCC, Springfield, PA, and Northminster Presbyterian Church, Drexel Hill, PA. These two congregations came together under Rev. Bupp's guidance and formed Collenbrook United Church, Drexel Hill, PA, where he pastored for eleven years. He then served as the Assistant to the Conference Minister for the Pennsylvania Southeast UCC Conference, with responsibilities for over 180 UCC churches from 1983 until he retired in October, 2000.
The focus of his ministry was the union of people and churches. Rev. Bupp made several trips to El Salvador in support of Christian ministries there, and had a pulpit exchange during the summer of 1976 with the First Reformed Church of Nottingham, England.
Rev. Bupp's hobbies included model trains, collecting baseball cards and stamps. He had a passion for the Phillies.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children and their spouses: Keith A. Bupp and Sujata (Bose) Bupp of Gaithersburg, MD; Karl E. Bupp and Carol (Goetz) Bupp of Wayne, PA; Stephanie R. (Bupp) Becker and Daniel P. Becker of Wyomissing, PA; Jennifer (Bupp) Meko and Joseph Meko of Nashville, TN. He is also survived by nine beloved grandchildren: Brendan, Brian, Anna, Kari, Sam, Alyssa, Erin, Eric and Emily.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. John's UCC, Lansdale, PA on May 17, 2015 at 3:30 p.m.
