Teresa "Tessie" (Screpesi) Bennethum, 93, of West Reading, died May 18, 2013 in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center.
She was the wife of Leon Allen Bennethum, whom she married December 1, 1945.
Born in Reading, PA on May 8, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Mario and Anna (Nastasi) Screpesi.
She was employed for 45 years and known as the "Meatball Queen" at Screpesi Sandwich Shop, Reading, retiring in 2000.
Teresa was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, West Reading.
She loved sewing and crocheting and made keepsake afghans and raggedy Ann and Andy dolls for loved ones.
Teresa is also survived by two daughters: Barbara Ann (Bennethum) Lowry of Reading and Patricia Maria (Bennethum), wife of Michael S. Hoffman of Spring Township.
Other survivors include three sisters: Rose (Screpesi) widow of Joseph Bugay of Mohnton; Josephine (Screpesi), widow of Richard Farrell of Exeter Township and Anna (Screpesi), widow of Robert Beane and Walter Fedoric of Wernersville and a sister-in-law, Josephine (Rinaldi) Screpesi of Spring Township.
There are also six grandchildren: Kristin K. (Lowry), wife of Edward Perhonitch; Alycia M. (Hoffman), wife of Joseph E. Lenart, III; Rachel K. Hoffman; Stewart M., husband of Gia (DiGiacomo) Hoffman; Lee A., husband of Kelly (Miller) Hoffman and Shannon (Lowry), wife of Brian Sowal.
Nine great grandchilden also survive her: Parker A. Lenart, Adyson Perhonitch, Mason J. Lenart, Madeline E. Sowal, Jadyn Perhonitch, Gavin M. Lenart, Olivia A. Sowal, Sophia K. Sowal and Michael S. Hoffman.
The family would also like to acknowledge Maia Reyes Perez, Teresa's caregiver for her excellent care of Teresa during her last days.
She was predeceased by six siblings: Pauline Borelli, Margaret Perrotto, Joseph Screpesi, Anthony Screpesi, Francis Screpesi and Mary Jaroczynski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:00 am in Sacred Heart R.C. Church, 740 Cherry Street, West Reading. A viewing will be held Thursday from 6:00 - 8:00 pm in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
