Sylvia Updegrove

Sylvia "Sis" (Greul) Updegrove, 81, of Lincoln Park, died August 1, 2016, in St. Joseph's Hospital.

Born on October 21, 1934, in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Mia (Baureithel) Greul.

She was a graduate of Wilson High School in 1952, where she was a cheerleader; and Albright College in Home Ecomomics in 1956, where she was a member of Phi Beta Mu.

Sylvia retired after 25 + years from UGI, Corp., where she was a Home Economist and Community Relations Coordinator. She served on the Berks County Co-op Extension Family Living Advisory Committee.

She was a familiar face at Leesport craft shows, where she was a stand holder for over 20 years. On Saturdays you could find her dressed in blue and white cheering on Penn State. Loving home ec, her favorite room in the house was her kitchen. Sylvia will miss her monthly breakfasts with HERB (Home Ec Retired Bunch).

Sylvia is survived by her son, John S. Updegrove, at home. Five nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews also survive her.

She was predeceased by one sister, Norma Jane and her late husband Calvin "Dody" Ammon; and one brother, E. John, and his late wife Donna Greul.

A visitation will be held Friday, August 5, 2016, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading, with a celebration of life service to begin at 2:30 p.m. Burial in Pleasant View Cemetery will be private at the convenience of the family.
