Susan Gyorky

Susan (Meinig) Gyorky, 74, passed away peacefully in her home after a lengthy battle with cancer on Friday, October 1, 2021. She was the loving wife of Attila I. Gyorky. The couple met at East Stroudsburg University and married on August 22, 1970 and shared 51 years of marriage together.

Born June 11, 1947, in Wyomissing, Susan was a daughter of the late Hans R., Sr. and Elsie M. (Miller) Meinig. She was a Wyomissing Area High School graduate and went on to earn her degree as a Registered Nurse at the Reading Hospital School of Nursing. Susan started her career as a nurse at the former Monroe County General Hospital, East Stroudsburg. After moving to Berks County, she was employed with the former Community General and St. Joseph Hospital before she returned to the Reading Hospital. There, she was a Nurse Manager and Department Head over seven units. She helped start the Laser Surgery Center and the Ambulatory Surgery Center before retiring after 35 years of service in 2006.

In addition to her husband, Attila; Susan is survived by her son, Robert S. Gyorky and his wife, Teresa of Oley and her grandson, Robert A. Gyorky, at home.

Also surviving are four sisters, Elsa Hessler, wife of the late Fred of Elizabethtown, Marianne Castaneda and her husband, Art of Palmdale, CA, Carolyn Doyle and her husband Darrell of Mt. Penn and Elizabeth Engle, wife of the late Michael of West Lawn.

She was predeceased by her brother, Hans R. Meinig Jr, the late husband of Eleanor Meining of Reading.

Services for Susan are private and at the convenience of the family. She will be laid to rest in Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, West Reading is honored to assist the family.
