Susan E. Amante

Susan E. Amante, 71, of Reading, passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2021, in the care of the Highlands of Wyomissing. She was the widow of Manuel Amante, who passed away in November of 2018.

Born in Berks County to the late Bernard B. and Margaret M. (Frees) Weihrer, Susan graduated from Reading High School '68 before enrolling at Kutztown State Teachers College, '72. For over 35 years she worked as an educator for the Reading School District, teaching at Tyson-Schoener, Riverside, and 10th and Green St. Schools. She also worked for a number of years as a tour guide and educator at the Reading Museum. She last served as the gifted program coordinator at Northeast and Southwest Middle Schools, finally retiring in 2007.

Susan was a member of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church.

Throughout her life Susan was an enthusiastic swimmer, and she gave swimming lessons at a number of area pools. Her first job was at Hillside Pool as a lifeguard. She was also a frequent volunteer for the Red Cross.

Susan will be remembered by her grandchildren, Clark Iverson B. Amante, Aaron B. Amante, and Laurence B. Amante. She is also survived by a number of cousins.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Susan's memory may be offered to Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 421 Windsor St, Reading, PA 19601.

A memorial service for Susan will be held with celebrant Rev. Robert Argot at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 17, 2021, at the Kuhn Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc, 5153 Kutztown Rd, Temple, with burial to follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park. Friends are invited to pay their respects from 9:00 AM until the start of services.
