Sue Lewis

Sue Lewis, 87, a retired elementary schoolteacher and reading specialist who taught many years in the Wilson School District, passed away peacefully at Kline Hospice House in Frederick, MD on August 4, 2026 after three years in memory care there and in Wyomissing, PA.

Sue was born in Evanston, IL to Lester and Dorothy Lawrence, was raised in Allentown, PA, got her teaching degree at Knox College in Galesburg, IL, and then settled in Reading, PA where she spent most of her life teaching and raising her two daughters.

She is predeceased by her father and mother as well as David Schwartz, the father of her daughters, Basil Lewis, Jr, their stepfather, and Robert Troxel, her beloved companion for 15 wonderful years.

Sue loved reading, sewing, traveling, music, theater, attending church with Bob, and spending time with her friends and family.

She is survived by her daughters, Stephanie Schwartz Sites and her wife, Missy Sites of Frederick, MD, and Pamela Schwartz Clark, and her partner, David McDavitt, of Arlington, VA. In addition, she leaves behind three grandchildren, Alec Pain, husband of Sofia, Cameron Pain, husband of Bela, and Cassie Pain, partner to Emily, one great granddaughter, Sadie, as well as the four Lewis stepchildren, David, Susan, Dan, and Amy.

A private celebration of life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bausman Memorial U.C.C., 1064 Penn Avenue, Wyomissing, PA 19610 or Kline Hospice House, 7000 Kimmel Rd. Mount Airy, MD 21771.
