Steven B. Hahn, 69, of Wyomissing, died on Sunday, September 1, 2024, in the care of Laureldale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Steve was born April 15, 1955, in Portland, OR, to the late Tom and Joan (Heinz) Hahn. He is survived by his brother, Tom R. Hahn, husband of Nancy, of Summerville, SC, and his sister, Kathy J. Hahn of Palm Harbor, FL. He is also survived by two nephews, a niece, an aunt and uncle, several cousins and their families.

Steve graduated from Reading High School (RHS) in 1973 where he was a starting member of the PA state final basketball team. That year he was selected for the all-city team and was honorable mention for all-state.

He attended Union College then transferred to Albright College where he continued playing basketball and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1978. He earned a Master's Degree in Education from Temple University.

During his basketball playing days, he was a member of several summer basketball league championships at 11th and Pike and Antietam. He also won several volleyball championships as part of the College Manor team in summer leagues at Berks County Swimming, Zinn's and Virginia Beach, VA. As a youngster, he swam for College Manor and was the top breaststroker in his age group.

Steve started his career as a teacher in the Reading School District. His first basketball coaching position was at Southern Junior High School for the boys' varsity team. He then went on to coach at RHS for the boys' junior varsity team and after three years became the boys' varsity coach. In 1986, he moved to become the assistant men's coach at Kutztown University followed by assistant women's coach. While at Kutztown, he served as Assistant to the Athletic Director for Student Development and Compliance and volunteered as color commentator on football and basketball broadcasts. Steve retired in 2013.

Steve was inducted into the Kutztown University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017. The 1973 RHS team was inducted into the RHS Athletic Hall of Fame in 2018. He was a member of the Reading Berks Basketball Association and received its Distinguished Achievement Award in 2021.

He was proud to have participated in the "6:30 softball league" pickup games at 13th and Union School playground. He was a fixture at 3rd base.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Steve's memory may be made to Kutztown University Foundation with a memo entry to the Steve Hahn Maroon and Gold Women's Basketball Endowment Scholarship at Kutztown University, PO Box 151, Kutztown, PA 19530.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until noon at Kuhn Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. 5153 Kutztown Rd., Temple, PA 19560. Words of remembrance will begin at noon, followed by a private committal. Condolences may be expressed at kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
