Stephen J. Olsavsky, 96, of West Lawn, died December 27, 2008 in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

Born August 2, 1912 in Rutland, Vermont, he was a son of the late Michael B. and Susan (Stelma) Olsavsky.

He was an Army Veteran of WWII.

Stephen was a 4th degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus at Bishop McFalls in Long Branch, New Jersey.

He started his working career as a clerk in a grocery store and was later employed as a yarn distributor with Harrisburg Knitting Mills.

Stephen was also employed as a mechanic with Monmouth Hosiery Mill, Red Bank, New Jersey for 20 years and another 10 years with Scott and Williams, Inc. as a technical service man.

He than worked for 2 years with R&D - Berkshire Knitting Mills and last worked as a mechanic with the Great American Knitting Mill, Bally before retiring in 1977.

Stephen continued working part-time with Great American Knitting Mill for an additional 12 years after retirement.

He is survived by a sister. Frances (Olsavsky) Novak of Lebanon.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:00 am in Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Lakeview and Franklin Streets, West Reading. A viewing will be held 8:30 - 9:30 am in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. Burial will be in Most Blessed Sacrament Church Cemetery, Bally.
