Stephen L. Haage, 69, of Spring Twp, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2020 at the Reading Hospital with his wife at his side after complications from successful cancer removal surgery. Stephen will be remembered by his loving wife of 29 years, Denise A. (Cox) Haage, and his daughter, Brittany A. Haage, of St. Clair Shores, MI. Stephen and Brittany were two peas in a pod. He is also remembered by his sister, Sandra G. Harbach, companion of Samuel C. Lucchese, of Whitfield.
In addition to his parents, Cora H. (Burdick) and James F. Haage, Jr., Stephen was predeceased by his identical twin brother, Scott F. Haage, and his step-daughter, Tiffany M. Cleaveland.
After high school, Steve enrolled in National Broadcasting School in Washington, DC, and received his certification in radio communications. He served from 1970-1973 in the Air Force as a Morse code decoder, stationed in Munich, Germany, and was discharged honorably as a sergeant. For over 35 years, local listeners heard Steve. He started on the channel WHUM as a producer of Paul Barkley's Night Mayor talk show. Later the station changed tags to WAGO, and during this period Steve engineered the live feeds from Reading Phillies and Reading Royals games. The station eventually became WIOV when Steve was responsible for many aspects of the radio broadcast. Steve also worked as a 13 year carrier for the Reading Eagle, and he drove his rural route until his health forced him to retire.
Stephen was a loving father, a faithful husband, and a very kind, gentle man. He was also the mastermind behind the "twinnie's" mischief.
Donations towards Stephen's funeral expenses may be made payable to the funeral home at address below.
A celebration of life for Stephen will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday September 12, 2020 at the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, 739 Penn Ave, West Reading PA 19611.
