Stanley J. Jarosynski, Wwii P.O.W.

Stanley Joseph Jarosynski, 94, died of natural causes in his Cumru Township residence on September 3, 2009.

He was the widower of Mary M. (Screpesi) Jarosynski, who died January 5, 1996.

Born in his Reading residence on November 5, 1914, he was a son of the late Jozef and Magdalena (Tomaszeski) Jarosynski.

He was an Army Air Corps Veteran of WWII, serving as a Staff Sergeant in the 305th Bomb Group and 365th Bomb Squadron. He was captured by the Germans after the B-17 in which he was a waist gunner was shot down over Schweinfurt, Germany on October 14, 1943. He spent the remainder of the war, 19 months, as a detainee in Stalag 17B, Krems, Austria. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross as well as the Air Medal with Three Oak-Leaf Clusters.

Stanley was employed 35 years as a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service, Reading, retiring in 1970.

He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Polish Falcon's Alliance of Berks County, Nest 964, Reading.

Stanley was also a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, Branch #258 and the Lt. Gen. Hunter Liggett V.F.W. Post 38, Reading.

He is survived by a daughter, Carole Ann (Jarosynski), widow of Herbert Scott Himmelberger of Spring Township.

Other survivors include two grandchildren: Brooke A. Himmelberger and Bradley S. Himmelberger and three great grandchildren: Caily, Shae and Quinn. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by four siblings: Cecelia Kostzewa, Pauline Iwanowski, Joseph Jarosynski and Alice Jarosynski.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 9:30 am in the Chapel of St. George at Gethsemane Cemetery, 3139 Kutztown Road, Muhlenberg Township. A viewing will be held Tuesday 8:00 - 9:00 am in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading.
