Stanley F. Jagielski

Stanley Frank Jagielski, South Heidelberg Township, was born November 12, 1921 and went to Heaven May 6, 2009. He was affectionately known from an early age by the nickname Muggsy. He was one of 8 children raised by his father, John on Laurel St in Reading, His mother Maryanna passed away when he was only a boy.

Like his father he was a hard worker. His first real job was at age 16 at Earle Hardware Company where he polished knobs and worked on the ovens. He also worked at Rataczjak's Hardware Store. And the Rataczjak's were like a second family to him while he was growing up.

Florence Dombroski, later to become his beloved wife, was too shy to ask him to her prom so she had his sister Irene ask him for her. Their first date was to see a movie and then they went to St Lawrence for ice cream.

In 1942 he joined the Army, after training he was sent to Australia where he served in the Army Air Corps. When he returned from the service he earned his High School Diploma.

He and Florence were married at Sacred Heart Church. They were life-time members of Sacred Heart. Stanley proudly served as an usher for many years. Even after moving away from the parish they continued to attend mass at Sacred Heart.

Stanley was a volunteer firefighter with Liberty Fire Company and the West Reading Fire Company. He was also a member of South Ends Social Club.

Stanley was one of the first employees of Brown Trailer Manufacturing, where he served as Financial Secretary of the Local United Steel Workers. Other places of employment included AW Golden and the US Post Office.

Stanley could fix or build anything. One of his favorite hobbies was woodworking. He also liked to "play the numbers". Every day at 7 PM the TV was tuned to watch the results of the PA lottery. He also enjoyed watching the Phillies, working in his vegetable garden and working on crossword puzzles with Florence. Together they made pierogis and other Polish foods.

Stanley became quite skilled at making delicious potato filling.

He is sadly missed by his wife Florence, who he affectionately called Maggie. He is missed by his daughter Mary Ann and his sons Joseph, and wife Lorraine; John and wife Arlene. As well as by his grandchildren: Lisa Jagielski, Andrea Levan and her husband Christopher, Nicholas Jagielski and Charlotte Jagielski. His great-grandchildren Hailey and Wyatt Levan will also sadly miss their Great-Pop-pop.

Also missing him will be his surviving sisters, Irene Wagner and Hinka Dlugosz, his brother Ed and his wife Carol, as well as brothers and sisters-in-law and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

We all have many fond memories and are sad that he is gone but at the same time happy to know Pop-pop is at peace and watching over us from Heaven.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 9 to 10:00 a.m. in the church.
