Stanley B. Kramer, 89, of Wernersville, died March 26, 2008 in Phoebe Berks Healthcare Center.

He was the beloved husband of the late Treva E. (Denison) Kramer.

Born June 15, 1918 in Carlisle, PA, he was a son of the late Frank D. and Adah (Basom) Kramer. Stanley was a graduate of Carlisle High School in 1937.

After working at several jobs in the Carlisle area until 1940 and having served in the Pennsylvania National Guard from 1938 to 1940 with Troop "C" of the mounted 104th Cavalry, Kramer enlisted with the Pennsylvania State Police on August 1, 1940. His first assignment with that organization was with Troop C, then headquartered at Third and Penn Sts., West Reading, where he was assigned to the Traffic Detail.

Kramer served with the Pennsylvania State Police, in various assignments until he retired with the rank of Major on June 14, 1978. During his career with the State Police he served in various capacities; Aeronautics Investigator, Criminal Investigations and Traffic Patrol. He also served as Commanding Officer, Troop "A", Greensburg; Troop "J", Lancaster; Troop "S", Milesburg and Troop "K", Philadelphia.

From 1975 until his retirement in 1978, Kramer served as Area I Commander, headquartered at the present location of the State Police on Kenhorst Blvd., Reading. His duties consisted of overseeing the operation of three troops of the State Police, namely Troop "L", Reading; Troop "M", Bethlehem and Troop "K", Philadelphia.

Kramer's career with the State Police was twice interrupted by military service. From 1943 to 1946, he served as an aircraft pilot with the Army Air Corps in the China/Burma/India Theater of operations during World War II; and from 1951 to 1953 when he served as a pilot with the U.S. Air Force in Korea during the Korean War.

He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Reading, where he served numerous years with the Church Council in various functions.

Stanley was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

Surviving is a son, Steve, York, PA and a daughter, Louise (Kramer) Shore of Penn Valley, PA and two granddaughters, Rachel and Elizabeth Shore.

In addition there is a sister, Joyce (Kramer) Black of Carlisle, PA and a brother, Hays Kramer of Boise, Idaho.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., Laureldale. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Epler's Church Cemetery, Bern Township. Online condolences may be recorded at www.christfuneralhome.com
