Solon William Bailey

Solon William Bailey, Jr., 80, of Wyomissing, passed away November 25, 2009 in Manor Care, Sinking Spring.

He was the husband of Patricia Ann (Gerhard) Bailey.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Solon William, Sr. and Emma Margaret (Egolf) Bailey.

He was a 1948 graduate of Reading High School and served a four year sheet metal apprenticeship.

Solon was employed as a foreman in the sheet metal department by Wertz Engineering, Reading, retiring in 1975.

He was a member of West Lawn United Methodist Church.

Solon was a member of the Jay Gee Travelers Club and the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 19, Philadelphia.

He was an U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Solon William,III., husband of Robin M. Bailey, Wyomissing, his daughter, Deborah Ann (Bailey), wife of Roderick Ulrich, Shillington; his sister, Leola Engleman, Kutztown and his brother, Nelson Bailey, Palmyra.

He is also survived by four grandchildren, Jason Ulrich, Todd Ulrich, Jodie Bailey and Travis Bailey and two great-grandchildren.

Solon was predeceased by his two siblings, Harvene Burkhardt and Roberta Bailey.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading, PA 19611. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Contributions may be made to: West Lawn U.M. Church, 15 Woodside Ave Reading, PA 19609.
