Sidney D. Kline, Jr., 82, died on Monday, October 20, 2014 at The Highlands at Wyomissing.
Born in West Reading, PA on March 25, 1932, Sid was the husband of Barbara (James) Kline.
He was the son of the late Leona C. (Barkalow) and the late Sidney D. Kline.
Sid was a 1950 graduate of Wyomissing Area High School; 1954 graduate of Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA; and 1956 graduate of Dickinson School of Law, Carlisle, PA. He also served in the United States Army.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Reading.
Sid was associated with Stevens & Lee, Attorneys at Law from 1958 until his retirement. Sid served as Secretary; President and Manager; President and Co-Manager; Chairman and Co-Manager, and most recently Of Counsel.
He was a member of the Berks County Bar Association having served as President in 1980, the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the American Bar Association. Additionally, he was a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.
Sid served on numerous charitable and community development organizations including The Reading Hospital and Medical Center (Chairman and member of the Board of Directors); The Highlands at Wyomissing (Chairman and member of the Board of Directors); Greater Berks Development Fund (Vice President, President, and Secretary); The Wyomissing Foundation; United Way of Berks County (President and member of the Board of Directors; Campaign Chairman); Berks County Community Foundation (President and member of the Board of Directors); Richard J. Caron Foundation; Betsy King Classic Charities, Inc. (Chairman); and Wyomissing Area School District (Solicitor); Dickinson College (Chairman and member of the Board of Trustees); and Dickinson School of Law (Vice President and member of the Board of Trustees). In recognition of his extraordinary community service, Sid received several awards including Wilbur H. Doran Community Service Award; Thun Community Service Award (jointly with his spouse); Richard J. Caron Community Service Award (jointly with his spouse); and the inaugural Berks County Award for Outstanding Community Service which has been designated as the Sidney D. Kline, Jr. Award for Outstanding Community Service.
Sid is also survived by three children: Allison (Kline) McCanney, wife of the late David McCanney; Leslie (Kline) Davidson, wife of William R. Davidson; and Lisa (Kline) Gallen, wife of John H. Gallen, Jr.
He is also survived by his eight grandchildren: Megan P. Davidson of San Diego, CA; Michael Q. Davidson of Mount Joy, PA; Christyn S. Davidson; William J. McCanney, Laura S. McCanney, Lindsay P. McCanney, Samuel J. Gallen, and Nathaniel S. Gallen, all of Wyomissing, PA.
Other survivors include two sisters, Joan C. (Kline) Gingrich of Williamsport, PA and E. Susan (Kline) Hart of Philadelphia, PA, and a brother Robert C. Kline, husband of Ann (Hooff) Kline, of Phoenixville, PA.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 27, 2014 at 11 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, 527 Washington Street, Reading, PA 19601. A viewing will be held in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading on Sunday, October 26, 2014 from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
