Shirley J. Thomas

Shirley J. Thomas, of Exeter Township, died March 13, 2014 in St. Joseph Medical Center, Bern Township.

She was the wife of George P. Thomas, whom she married June 26, 1955.

Born December 30, 1927 in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Steve and Emma Potajecky.

Shirley was a graduate of Reading High School.

She was the owner and operator of Shirley Thomas School of Dance for over 25 years. She was also the choreographer for the Reading Civic Opera Society for 23 years.

When Shirley was a young girl, she traveled during World War II entertaining servicemen for the USO.

She was a member of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, Reading.

Shirley loved knitting, gardening and vacationing in Bermuda. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother (Yia Yia').

Surviving, in addition to her husband are her two children: Peter G., husband of Maria E. (Kaplar) Thomas of Exeter Township and Thalene T., wife of Gregory N. Mallus of Gaithersburg, MD, and her grandchildren, Sophia and Nicholas.

Services will be held Thursday at 12 p.m. in Sts. Constantine and Helen Church, 1001 E. Wyomissing Blvd., Reading, PA 19611. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service in church. Burial will be in Aulenbach Cemetery, Mt. Penn.
