Shirley M. Super

Shirley May Super, 75, died April 21, 2007 at 4:13 am in her Lincoln Park residence after a brief battle with cancer.

Born October 1, 1931 in Cressona, Schuylkill County, she was a daughter of the late John S. Riegel and Bessie S. (Urich) Riegel. She was raised in Reading from infancy by her paternal grandparents, Louis C. Riegel and Mary I. (Stoyer) Riegel whom she thought of as Mom and Pop.

She was predeceased by her husband, Jack F. Super, who passed away on October 16, 1990. They were married September 10, 1950. A 1949 graduate of Reading High School, she worked from 1949 to 1950 at the Berkshire Knitting Mills as a pairer. She worked for the family owned Victor Sturgis Pretzel Company Inc. for many years, serving as Vice-President from 1975 to 1982. She last worked for D & J Sandwich Shop which is family owned since 2004.

An avid bowler and pinochle player, she enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family.

Shirley was a member of Lincoln Park United Methodist Church.

She was predeceased by a son, Jack F. Super, Jr. in 1953.

Surviving are five daughters, Viki D., wife of Grant J. Moyer, Sinking Spring, Rene S., wife of Dale H. Brobst, Sinking Spring, Debi L., wife of Rodney J. Faust, Sinking Spring, Cathy E., widow of Dennis W. Witwer, Sr., Lincoln Park, and Kim S. wife of Theodore J. Celmer, Wernersville.

There are also 12 grandchildren, Grant Jason Moyer, husband of Somerlyn, Shannon M. Moyer, husband of Stephanie, Christopher Celmer, husband of Shannon, Dennis W. Witwer, Jr., Jesse L. Witwer, husband of Chasity, Keli L. Faust, Lindsey A Celmer, Krystin R. Brobst, Ryan D. Brobst, Kaci E. Whitney, wife of Christopher, Travis T. Celmer and Jack T. Celmer and seven great-grandchildren.

Other survivors include a brother John S. (Mike) Riegel, Orwigsburg and three sisters, Carol E., wife of Cliff Blevins, Pine Grove, Janice F., wife of Ernest Henry, Hamburg, and Doris Dwin, Mount Carbon. She was predeceased by a brother, Gerald E. (Sonny) Riegel.

Services will Wednesday at 10:00 am in Lincoln Park United Methodist Church, Cambridge and Jefferson Avenues with the Rev. Jerry McGrath officiating. Viewings will be held Tuesday evening 6:30 - 8:00 pm in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading and Wednesday 9:30 am until time of services in the church.
