Shirley I. Spencer

Shirley I. Spencer, 84, of Muhlenberg Twp. died April 9, 2013, in Reading Hospital.

Her husband, Broderick A. Spencer, died November 9, 1982.

Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Claude, Sr. and Alice (Neider) Drey.

She was a graduate of the former Shillington High School.

Shirley was employed by Rachman Mfg. for 25 years before retiring in 1973 to work in the family business, The 18th Ward Café. In her later years, she provided child care to the children of Dr. and Mrs. Dennis DiRenzo.

She is survived by a son, David, G., husband of Gloria A. Spencer, with whom she resided; a granddaughter, Stefani A. Spencer; and great grandchildren, Nathan and Elizabeth Velazquez. One sister Virginia Brophy and one brother Ronald Drey; and many nieces and nephews also survive her.

She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kelly L. Spencer, sisters, Mildred Bauman and Thelma Drey, and brothers, Claude Drey, Jr., Robert Drey, Jack Drey, Richard Drey, Kenneth Drey and Raymond Drey.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Friends may call Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private in Berks County Memorial Gardens. Online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhome.com.
