Shirley K. Palmieri (Smith), 56, passed away December 4, 2015, in her Greenfields residence.
Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Elizabeth (Witchey) Smith.
She was the wife of Thomas M. Palmieri.
Shirley was a 1976 graduate of Schuylkill Valley High School and attended Border Fashion College in Florida.
She was a hair stylist for many years. Shirley also spent many years in the restaurant business and was the manager and bartender for the American House, Fritztown. She also was employed by Behrman Chiropractic in Muhlenberg Township as a receptionist.
Shirley had a contagious laugh, she was very good hearted, had a great sense of humor, and loved to tell a joke. She loved animals and was predeceased by her dog, Lucy. She also loved dancing and spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Ashley E., wife of Adam L. Berg, Dauberville; and a brother, Randy E., husband of Bonne Smith, Harrisburg; sister in laws, Maryanne (Palmieri), wife of George Kline, and Sheila, widow of Dominic Palmieri and wife of David Franks. Several nieces and nephews also survive her.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Michael P. Smith.
Shirley's family would like to express their appreciation for the great care given to her by the Cancer Center at St. Joe's, and Heartland Hospice, especially to nurse Cynthia Wandishin, during her courageous four year battle with cancer. They also would like to thank Dr. Marc Rovito for his loving and compassionate care.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at 1 p.m. in the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading. A visitation will be held from 11a.m. to 1.p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital, P.O.
