Shirley M. Huhn

Shirley M. Huhn, 83, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at the Lutheran Home at Topton, after a stay of approximately 1 year. She was the wife of Richard P. Huhn. They married on her 20th birthday, September 2, 1961.

Born at home in Stony Creek Mills, she was the daughter of the late Arthur W. and Ella M. (Manwiller) Hoffmaster. Shirley graduated from Mt. Penn High School in 1959. After working at Talbot Knitting Mill, she dedicated her life to caring for her family and serving others, including as an in-home private care provider at The Highlands in Wyomissing. Friendly and always smiling, she derived joy from meeting and getting to know people and hearing their life stories. Caring for her granddaughters, hosting family gatherings, relaxing with friends at the Jersey shore, and going for car rides on local country roads hoping to find unique homemade foods, or a whimsical knick-knack or antique, brought her special joy.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Richard; her son, Todd R. Huhn (Elizabeth Sloughfy) of Fleetwood; daughter, Tammy L. Huhn of Amity Township; brother, David Hoffmaster (Catharine) of Stouchsburg; granddaughters, Brooke E. Huhn and Ashleigh E. Huhn, and nine nephews and two nieces.

She was predeceased by her sister, Arlene Burns, and her brother-in-law, James Burns.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Kuhn Funeral Home, West Reading. The visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Zion Spies Evangelical Lutheran Church at 310 Spies Church Road, Reading, Pennsylvania 19606. Shirley was a lifelong member of the Zion Spies congregation.
