Shirley R. Eckert

Shirley Ruth Eckert, 80, of Laureldale, died March 18, 2013 in The Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

She was the wife of Walter Lewis Eckert who died December 16, 1994.

Born January 27, 1933 in Kutztown, she was a daughter of the late Earl Leroy and Perma Mae (Kehm) Stopp.

Shirley was a 1950 graduate of Kutztown High School.

She was a beautician for 62 years, owning and operating "Shirley's Beauty Salon" out of her home. She also worked for Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc. for many years.

Shirley was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Laureldale.

She was a member of Northmont Beneficial Association and Order of the Eastern Star.

Shirley loved to dance and enjoyed watching Dancing with the Stars.

An avid traveler, Shirley loved to sun bathe and went parasailing a month ago in The Dominican Republic.

Shirley enjoyed taking care of other people.

She is survived by her two children: Melody J., wife of Pat T. Kemp of Douglassville and Michael A., husband of Debra Eckert of Laureldale.

In addition, she is survived by her four grandchildren: Jennifer M. Eckert, John P. Kemp, Amy Beth Kemp and Stacy L. Eckert.

Services will be Friay at 11 a.m. in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. Viewings will be held Thursday evening from 6:30-8:30 and Friday morning one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery.
