Sharyn L. Kuhn

Sharyn Kuhn Veterans Advocate

Sharyn L. Kuhn, beloved mother, sister, and friend, passed away May 15, 2012 at the age of 66 from natural causes. Her husband, Roland L. Kuhn, died November 19, 2003. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Glenn S. and Jane E. (Parsons) Hagy. Sharyn was a 1963 graduate of Wilson High School and a 1993 graduate of Penn State Berks. Most recently Sharyn worked as a paralegal for Gary L. Dorsett, Esq., Reading. She was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola R.C. Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister.

Sharyn brought commitment and passion to all things in which she was involved. Her most public expression of love was seen in her desire to honor veterans by devoting her time and energy to organizing dinners and award ceremonies for all those who have served their country. In recognition of her work she received the following awards: the first Outstanding Berks County Veterans Advocate Award; Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 131; and the Veterans Appreciation Award. Her most private expression of love was seen in her endless help of animals in need, taking them in, finding them homes, and nurturing them back to health. Sharyn was a true giver in every sense of the word, giving her time and possessions to those in need. Sharyn believed to give also means to grant opportunities to someone. She created opportunities for others to reach out to veterans as well by establishing donation funds. Her infectious smile created a lasting impact on others, which will not be forgotten.

Sharyn is survived by her daughter, Dr. Colleen M. Kuhn, Salt Lake City, Utah; her son, Martin F. Kuhn, West Lawn; her sister, Lana Hagy, Kissimmee, Fl; her brother, Scott Hagy, PA, and her good friend, Kathy Reppert, Sinking Spring. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, May 22 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Ignatius Loyola R.C. Church, 2810 St. Albans Dr., Sinking Spring, Pa 19608. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 212 East Broad St., Bethlehem, PA 18018 or St. Ignatius Loyola R.C. Church at the above address. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhome.com.
