Sean Michael Flannery, 29, of Wyomissing, PA, was killed in the line of duty on November 22, 2010, serving his country in Afghanistan.

He was the fiancé of Christina E. Martin, Raleigh, NC.

Born in West Reading, he was a son of Charlene (Charlie) V. Flannery, Wyomissing and the late Michael F. Flannery, Esq.

Sean was a 1999 graduate of Wyomissing High School, where he was the captain of the soccer team, kicked for the football team and ran track; in 2003 he graduated from Shippensburg University, earning a BS degree in Business Administration. He also played lacrosse in college.

Sean enlisted with the U.S. Army in July of 2004. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star and Overseas Service Ribbon. At the time of his passing he was a Staff Sergeant, serving as a Squad Leader, he formerly held rank as a Combat Infantryman. He received two Military Service Medals for RCOM (En Route Communications) and Good Conduct. He fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. He was Air Borne and Air Assault Qualified, having two unit citations and one foreign airborne award. He proudly served his county with honor and dignity, truly fulfilling The Infantryman's Creed: "... I am relentless, I am always there, now and forever; I Am The Infantry ... FOLLOW ME"

In addition to his fiancée and mother, he is survived by his brothers, Sgt. Brian P. Flannery, Ft. Bragg, NC and Devin J. Flannery, Wyomissing.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, West Reading. Friends may call Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. No public visitation on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Olivet Boys and Girls Club, 1161 Pershing Blvd., Reading, PA 19611.
