Sean Girard Carr

Sean Girard Carr, passed from this life on May 10, 2024. Born in Berks County PA, on May 11, 1938, he was the son of Dorothy Hannahoe Carr, and John Girard Carr. Sean was a graduate of Reading Central Catholic High School, and Villanova University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master's Degree, in Religious Studies. After his graduation from Villanova University, Sean was enrolled for seven years as a Seminarian at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood, PA. After leaving the seminary Sean spent three years living in Madrid, Spain, to perfect his knowledge and competence of the Spanish language and the culture. He then moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan, where he was a Professor of Spanish at Eastern Michigan University. Sean spent the past few months as a resident of Keystone Villa in Douglassville after spending most of his adult life in Bryn Mawr, PA.

Sean was predeceased by both of his parents, as well as his only sibling, Brian Michael Carr. He is survived by his cousins, Timothy Hannahoe husband of Karen, Carol Hannahoe widow of Daniel Hannahoe, Barry Hannahoe husband of Beverly, Kathleen Hannahoe Blaum wife of Gerald, all of Berks County, William Carr husband of Judy, Wildwood Crest, NJ, and Peter F. Carr husband of Sara, Pacific Palisades, CA. Over the years it is safe to say Sean read many thousands of books on world cultures, current world news events, Irish history, biographies, literary fiction, and detective series. Sean could hold lengthy and engaging intellectual conversations on all of the above topics. Sean's memory was fluid and impressive. In his final days, Sean was surrounded by his small family and the hundreds of books he loved. The family is grateful to Keystone Villa of Douglassville for providing a warm and caring residential environment. At the same time our gratitude goes out to Chestnut Knoll Personal Care for their supportive care services. Finally, we thank the staff at AccentCare who provided hospice services that helped Sean navigate his final days, under the guidance of RN case manager Nurse Rachel Drey.

A celebration of life will take place at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, May 16, 2024, beginning at 9:30 AM with a viewing, to be followed at 10:00 by a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery.
