Sarah M. Hayes

Sarah M. Hayes, 90, of Sinking Spring, passed away during the evening hours of Monday, December 20, 2021, in her residence surrounded by her large and loving family. She was the widow of William H. Hayes, who passed away in 2007 after over fifty years of happy marriage. Sarah was born in Palo Alto, PA, to the late Michael P. and Anna (Duffy) McGovern. She graduated from Pottsville Catholic High School ' 49.

Once her children were enrolled in their primary education, Sarah took a job at Boscov's, and for 20 years served as a sales associate in the Domestics department. She was a member of St. John Baptist de la Salle Church.

Sarah loved her family and cherished her grandchildren. The much loved matriarch of her family, Sarah was the "keeper of the holidays." The other major event she regarded with reverence was the yearly family vacation to the beach, where the entire family would enjoy being together.

Left to treasure Sarah's memory are her children: Susan L. Hayes of Leesport; Michael P. Hayes (Colleen) of Flying Hills; Kathleen H. Mansell (William) of Barnesville; William P. Hayes (Johnnie) of Hockessin, DE; Patricia Hayes of Sinking Spring; and Molly Miller (companion of Gary) of Wernersville. Sarah is also survived by her grandchildren, Sean Hayes, Lindsey Jodon, Caitlin Sterner, Kelsey Yutko, Maggie Mansell, Liam Mansell, Sarah Miller, Shannon Hayes, and Quinn Hayes, and her five great grandchildren. Sarah was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Louise Wachter and Anne Bubser.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Baptist de la Salle, 42 Kerrick Rd, Shillington, with burial to follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, 3139 Kutztown Rd, Reading. Friends and family are invited to gather at the church prior to Mass, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, West Reading is entrusted with arrangements.
