Sarah E. Epler

Sarah E. Epler, 92, formerly of Sycamore Road, West Reading, died June 1 in Berkshire Center, Exeter Township, where she had been a resident since August 2000.

Her husband, George W. Epler, died April 20, 1987.

Born in Sunbury, Northumberland County, she was a daughter of the late George and Catharine (Roberts) Spurr.

Epler had been employed for 15 years as a cashier in the snack bar of the Reading Hospital, last working in 1986. She previously worked as a registered nurse in the offices of Dr. William Kline, Reading, until 1950.

She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, West Reading.

Epler was a 1929 graduate of the Methodist Episcopal Hospital School of Nursing, Philadelphia.

She was past president and former secretary of the Reading Hospital ladies auxiliary.

Epler is survived by a daughter, Phyllis (Epler) Hoffman, Douglassville.

Other survivors include a brother, George Spurr Jr., Westerville, Ohio; and two sisters, Geraldine Spurr, Milton, Northumberland County, and Marjorie (Spurr) Bell, Mifflinburg, Union County.

There is also one granddaughter.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading. Burial will be in Wyomissing Cemetery, Gouglersville.
