Sarah Elizabeth Matz

Sarah Elizabeth (Berkley) Matz, a spunky and radiant force of life, passed away at home on February 25, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Birdsboro, she was the beloved wife of Scott Matz, with whom she shared 18 years of love, laughter, and enduring partnership.

Sarah faced life with unwavering courage, dedicating herself to serving others even in the face of two separate cancer diagnoses. She dedicated 15 years to education, shaping the lives of countless students. She began her career with a deep commitment to students, teaching special education in the Reading, Governor Mifflin, and Boyertown Area School Districts. She often joked with her teacher friends about "joining the dark side" when she transitioned into school administration, first as a special education supervisor and then in her current role as the principal of Ringing Rocks Elementary in the Pottsgrove School District. Nothing brought her more joy than supporting "her kids".

To know Sarah was to experience her infectious energy, quick wit, and sassy charm. Always laughing and smiling, she radiated a warmth that made people gravitate toward her. While education was her calling, her true joy was found in the moments shared with family. She adored her nieces Sadie and Savannah and was so proud of the girls they are becoming. Sarah was at her happiest in her home away from home—Cape May, New Jersey—where she and Scott soaked up the sun, sea, and cherished moments together. The bright sunshine and excitement of the beach perfectly matched her energy in life. When not by the shore, Sarah and Scott found joy in birdwatching, building LEGO creations, and simply enjoying life's little adventures together.

In addition to her husband, Sarah's legacy continues in the hearts of her parents, Neil and Julie Berkley, Birdsboro; her sisters, Amanda Smith and her husband Erle, Millersville, and Jessica Corliss and husband Robert, Conshohocken; her aunt Joy, wife of Lisa, New Mexico, and her nieces Sadie (Smith) and Savannah (Corliss). Welcoming her with open arms are her dear grandparents and her faithful pup, Chance, who no doubt greeted her with a wagging tail.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Sarah's incredible life at a visitation on Saturday, March 8, at 9:00 AM at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading, with a service to follow at 11:30 AM. Online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
