Sarah H. Davis

Sarah H. (Merkel) Davis, 99 years, 5 months, formerly of 3013 Kutztown Road, Kitchen's by Davis and 1345 Museum Road, Reading, passed away September 28, 2011 at 9:40 pm surrounded by family, loving aids and nurses at ECC Stoneridge Town Centre, Myerstown, where she was a resident since 2004.

She was married February 23, 1929 to George Davis, who passed away October 4, 1995.

Born in Oley, PA on May 19, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Henry W. Merkel who died in 1918 and Sallie (Bloch) Merkel Fox and was the step-daughter of the late Samuel B. Fox.

Sarah, along with her husband, owned and operated Kitchen's by Davis, Hyde Park for 30 years, retiring in 1970.

She loved playing the organ and even donated hers to the Stoneridge dinning room.

She was a member of Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, Tuckerton.

Sarah was also a member of the Temple Fire Company Auxiliary.

She is survived by her two sons: Richard C., husband of Shirley Ann (Huyett) Davis of West Lawn and John G. Davis of Reading and a daughter, Violet L., wife of Wilford Cooley of Spring Township.

There are also three grandchildren: Lynette Davis of Bernville; Darla Levey of Mohnton; Bruce, husband of Mary Davis of Edinburg, Scotland and three great grandchildren: Charlie, Jack and Eloise, all of Edinburg, Scotland.

Other survivors include a half-brother: Earl Fox of Fleetwood and many many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 am in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Good Shepherd Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
