Sara (Trostle) "Shorty" Stump, 85, Spring Township passed away peacefully Thursday, January 5, 2012 in St. Joseph Medical Center, Bern Township. She was the widow of William D. Stump who passed away August 21, 1997. They were married July 22, 1950 at Atonement Lutheran Church. Sara was later a member of West Lawn United Methodist Church. Born in Wyomissing, October 15, 1926, Sara was the daughter of the late Edwin E. and Stella (Hain) Trostle. She was predeceased by her sister, Louise (Trostle) Schaeffer of Wyomissing and is survived by her brother, Dr. Henry S. Trostle of Wallingford, PA. Sara was a 1944 graduate of Wyomissing High School and a 1948 graduate of West Chester University. Beginning her professional career in 1948 at Reading High School and later Northwest Jr. High School, Sara taught health and physical education until 1957 when she took a position teaching physical education, science, and mathematics at Wilson High School retiring in 1960 to begin a family. She truly enjoyed the hours ice skating at the Stone House, summers at the playground and life guarding at the West Reading pool, and the life-long friendships developed while growing up in Wyomissing Boro. As an adult, she was blessed to live in a neighborhood where neighbors became friends and those friends became more like a close and loving family. Sara was an avid bridge player, remained active with her high school graduating class, and spent hours knitting sweaters and baby hats for charity. She is survived by a son, Gary E. Stump, Spring Township and a daughter, Susan (Stump) McGrath, wife of Evan M. McGrath, Spring Township. Also surviving are two granddaughters; Colleen Elise McGrath and Erin Elizabeth McGrath.
