Sara B. "Snooky" (Boyle) Gallen, 84, of Shillington, died June 18, 2013, in Berks Heim.

She was predeceased in death by her husband, James J. Gallen, son Thomas, and grandson Isaiah.

Born in Tamaqua, Schuylkill County, she was a daughter of the late Francis X. and Catherine (Dietrich) Boyle.

She was a graduate of St. Jerome's High School, Tamaqua in 1947 and St. Joseph School of Nursing, in 1950. She earned a BS in Nursing Education from Kutztown University in 1985.

She was employed as a Registered Nurse for St. Joseph's Hospital, where she also served as President Women's Board and served on the Board of Directors of St. Joseph's Hospital. She also volunteered in many service organizations affiliated with St. Joe's. She was last employed by Holy Family Home Health Care, retiring in 1993.

She was a member of St. John Baptist de La Salle Roman Catholic Church where she served as an Eucharistic Minister and a member of the choir.

Sara is survived by eight children: James J., Jr., West Reading, Francis X.. and spouse Michele, Pennside, Andrew J. and spouse Barbara, Shillington, Philip T. and fiancee, Kimberly Fitch, Stow, OH, Matthew B., and spouse Neal Loebel, Lindenwald, NJ, Dr. Margaret M. Schaffer, and spouse Thomas, Milford, PA, Sara C."Sally", and spouse Dr Robert M. Kallos, Mohnton and Clare M. Gallen, Shillington. Along with fifteen grandchildren Jamie, Meghan, and Patrick Gallen, Meredith and Quinn Gallen, Thomas and Steven Gallen, Heather Gallen-Browarek, spouse John, Jordan Gallen, Alexander, Emily Cate, and Maura Schaffer, Kyle, Caroline and Annie Kallos. As well as one great-grandchild Nash "James" Browarek and extended family Jane Rantz, Diann Shields,and Debborah Jacobs . She is also survived by her sister Mary McGowan-Spatz, Wyomissing, two brothers, Anthony F. Boyle, Tamaqua and James R.Boyle, Sarver, PA along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Snooky exemplified "Mother, service and resilience". She was the light of our lives, and lived in the service of Christ and her community.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. John Baptist de La Salle R. C. Church, 420 Holland St. Shillington, PA 19607. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading, PA, 19611.
