Santo Angelo Vaccaro, 86, died Sunday morning January 13, 2008 in his Hyde Park residence.
He was the husband of Mary Marie (Leone) Vaccaro of Hyde Park for 61 years.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Angelo and Michelina (Bruno) Vaccaro.
He was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, Hyde Park.
Santo was a 1966 graduate of Reading High School.
He was a decorated Army Veteran of WWII and Korea and a life member of the V.F.W. Post #378, Reading.
Santo was the owner of the former Atlantic Service Station at 10th and Buttonwood for 15 years.
Working a daily job until he was 80 years old, he worked with Arnolds Book Bindery for 20 years and Baldwin Brass for 10 years as a mail courier.
His many other part-time jobs included the Reading Phillies in ticket sales; Reading High School Athletic Department, Albright College Athletic Department and bartending at the Goodwill (Hyde Park) Fire Company.
He was a P.I.A.A. Basketball Official for 25 years and also a Soccer and Track & Field Official.
Santo was a life member of Reading Berks Basketball Old Timers.
He most importantly loved spending time with his family.
Santo is also survived by two children: Sandra Marie (Vaccaro) Kalbach, who lives locally and Angelo Phillip husband of Karen (Froelich) Vaccaro of Southern Pines, N.C.
Other survivors include four siblings: Grace (Vaccaro) widow of Henry Brogna of Riverside, CA; Michael widower of Violet (Periandi) Vaccaro of Hollywood, FL; Sammuel widower of Regina (Kalina) Vaccaro of Reading and Joseph Vaccaro of Muhlenberg Township.
There are also three grandchildren: Heather M. (Kalbach) wife of Mark D. Moser of Bally; Michael A. Vaccaro and Matthew P. Vaccaro both of Southern Pines, N.C., and a great grandson: Jackson Santo Moser of Bally.
He also had twelve nieces and four nephews.
Santo was predeceased by a sister, Beatrice (Vaccaro) Hildebrand.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:00 am in Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, Hyde Park. A viewing will be held Wednesday evening 6:30 - 8:00 pm in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. No public viewing on Thursday. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
