Samuel D. Lerch Jr., 76, of Penn Avenue, West Lawn, died Sept. 9 at 9:25 p.m. in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient for two days.

He was the husband of Patricia H. (Garner) Lerch.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Samuel D. Sr. and Mamie V. (Fink) Lerch.

Lerch worked for 30 years as an insurance agent for American General Life, Reading, retiring in 1984. He was also employed for 11 years as a courier by ASAP Courier Service, Sinking Spring, last working in 2000. In addition, he was the owner and operator of the Ain't We Sweet candy store in Ocean City, N.J., from 1985-1989.

Lerch was a member of West Lawn United Methodist Church.

He was an Army veteran.

Lerch was a 1944 graduate of Reading High School.

He was past president of the Sinking Spring Lions Club.

Lerch is also survived by a daughter, Kandis L. (Lerch) Moser, Sinking Spring; and two brothers, Ralph W., and Kenneth R., both of Reading.

There is also one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading. Entombment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery Mausoleum, Spring Township.
