Samuel J. Giamo, 86 formerly of Reading passed away June 29, 2008 in the Mifflin Center, Shillington where he had resided for four years.
Born in Clearfield, PA he was the son of the late Guiseppe and Nunziata (Ettaro) Giamo.
His generosity of spirit and his passion of caring for others will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Sam, who graduated from Reading High School, was employed his entire adult life at Textile Machine Works, later Rockwell International, until he retired a number of years ago. His career at the Textile was interrupted by serving with the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in Central Europe and the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes and was decorated with a number of medals including three bronze stars.
Sam also worked part time at Weiner's Men's Clothing store in Reading. He was a salesman and modeled the store's suits for several advertisements in the local newspapers. Sam also accompanied the owners of the store on their buying trips to New York.
He was active in the local amateur sports and was a founding member of the Crusaders Athletic Club.
Sam is survived by a sister Angeline Gasser of Fleetwood.
He was predeceased by another sister Mildred Pociechowski and three brothers, Sebastian, Anthony and John.
Other survivors include two nieces, Nancy (Giamo), wife of David Ache of Shillington and Nancy (Gasser), wife of Wayne Cawley of Fleetwood.
In addition there are several great nephews and nieces whom he was especially close to, Jeffrey Ache of Hanover, PA, Dr. Andrea Ache-Witmer of Shillington, Melissa (Ache) Shelley of Uxbridge, MA, Kelly (Cawley) Williamson of Oley and Adam Cawley of Fleetwood.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 237 Franklin St., Reading, PA 19602. Friends may call at the church an hour before the mass. Burial will be private in Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made, in Sam's memory to the church at the above address.
