Samuel B. Betz

Samuel B. Betz, 91, of Wyomissing Nursing and Rehabiliation Center, Reading, died March 13th at 1:55 am in The Reading Hospital and Medical Center, where he had been since Saturday.

He was the widower of Erma E. (Hollenbach) Betz, who died January 30, 2004.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Clarence and Elsie P. (Brown) Betz.

He was a 1931 graduate of Girard College, Philadelphia.

Betz was employed for 12 years as a bookkeeper and accountant, first at Columbian Warehouse from 1931-1933 and later Motor Freight Inc., Reading from 1933-1944.

He was later employed as a manager at Motor Freight, Lancaster Terminal from 1944-1948 and last for 35 years at the Reading Terminal before retiring in 1983.

Betz was a past president of both the Reading and Lancaster Traffic Clubs.

He was a 32nd degree Mason, Lodge #549, Reading.

Betz is survived by a daughter, Bonnilyn M. "Bonnie" (Betz) Harter, of Temple.

Other survivors include two grandsons, D. Scott Harter and Sam Harter.

Services will be Wednesday at 11:00 am in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Rev. Wendell S. Stoltzfus officiating. Viewing Wednesday 10:00 am until time of service. Burial will be in Hain's Church Cemetery, Lower Heidelberg Township. Contributions may be made to Olivets Boys & Girls Club, 1161 Pershing Blvd., Reading, Pa 19607.
