Samuel Paul Balthaser

Samuel Paul Balthaser, 86, passed away on January 1, 2024 at Sinking Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation. Born in South Heidelberg Township, he was the son of Paul and Minerva (Freeman) Balthaser.

Following his education, Sam started a career with Narrow Fabric, where he worked for over 25 years as an operational textile laborer. He also worked in the kitchen at Reading Hospital for over a decade.

Sam was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. He enjoyed boating, especially in the Maryland waters and spent much time in the mountains of Sullivan County at his cabin. Sam was known for giving everyone around him unique nicknames that will forever be used. Above all, he cherished moments with his beloved family, creating lasting memories together.

Sam is survived by his sister, Joan A. (Balthaser) Leed, widow of Samuel R. Leed, of Reinholds. He also leaves behind a nephew, Jeffrey S., husband of Deborah J. (Hix) Leed, of Reinholds and a niece, Jodie L. (Leed), wife of James Johnson, of Wernersville. Sam is also survived by his grandnephews, Travis J. Leed and Tyler S. Leed and his great nephew, Gabe S. Leed, all of Reinholds. Sam will be deeply missed by his best friend, Harry "Skip" Mitchell, of Knavers.

He is predeceased by his brother, Richard "Butch" A. Balthaser.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 2PM at Pleasant View Cemetery, 650 Fritztown Road, Sinking Spring, PA 19608.
