Samir S. Kheir, 68, of Wyomissing, passed away on October 8, 2011 surrounded by his loved ones at The Reading Hospital and Medical Center.
He was the husband of Nadia M. Kheir, to whom he was married for 38 years. Born March 9, 1943 in Cairo, Egypt, he was the son of the late Sabit and Matelda (Soliman) Kheir.
Samir was a 1966 graduate of Cairo University earning a double Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Power Engineering and the Science of Physics. In 1984, Samir earned his Professional Engineering license. Samir served in the Egyptian air force from 1968-1974 earning the rank of captain and receiving commendations for heroic efforts.
During Samir's distinguished engineering career he had been employed by some of the nation's largest nuclear power plants including Calvert Cliffs, Susquehanna, Three Mile Island, and Gilbert. Samir reached the rank of senior procurement engineer and was recognized nationally as one of the top 10 in the industry. Due to his achievements in the nuclear power industry Samir was credited in several publications for his contributions. Samir also was the owner/proprietor of the Ironmaster Restaurant and Tavern. He also was the founder and current president of Global Engineering & Technology. Samir was a long time member of St. Mary's Coptic Orthodox Church, Lancaster, where he served as president of the board of directors. Samir was one of the pillars of the congregation, and was instrumental in the growth and prosperity of the church.
Samir was a devoted husband and father. His whole life revolved around family, friends, and faith. As a man of deep faith, he was unwavering in his morals and principles.
He will be dearly missed.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children: Hany S. Kheir, Wyomissing; Andrew S. Kheir, Wyomissing and Amy K., wife of Trevor Vaughan, Sinking Spring. Also surviving are his two brothers Magdy and Mamdouh Kheir and his two sisters Ferial Mickheal and Samira Kheir. Samir was predeceased by a brother Helmi Kheir
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 12th from 6 to 8 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave. West Reading. There will be a visitation on Thursday, October 13th from 12 to 1 p.m. followed by a service at 1 p.m. in Sts. Constantine and Helen Church, 1001 East Wyomissing Blvd., Reading, PA 19611.
