Salvatore "Sam" Turrisi, 81, of Cumru Township died October 26, 2013 in Reading Hospital.
He was the husband of Jean F. (Mountz) Turrisi whom he married September 24, 1955.
Born November 11, 1931 in Reading, he was a son of the late Joseph and Rose (Marullo) Turrisi.
Sam was employed as a machinist with Dana Corp. for 34 years, retiring in 1986.
He was a dedicated member of Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, Reading.
Sam served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He served in the Marshall Islands as an air traffic control supervisor at the control tower; he earned the rank of staff sergeant.
He was also a member of Steel Workers Union and The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
Sam enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He loved sports, especially the Phillies and Eagles.
In addition to his wife, surviving are his two children: Joseph C. Turrisi, at home and Lori J., wife of Grayson S. Sharp of Carbondale, Lackawanna County.
Other survivors include his three grandchildren: Steven and Jennifer Kunkelman and Samantha Sharp and his two sisters, Bessie Motacki of Sinking Spring and Grace Geiger of Cumru Township.
Sam was predeceased by three sisters and two brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Holy Rosary R.C. Church, Franklin and Third Sts., Reading. A viewing will be held from 8:30-9:30 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading. Entombment will be in Gethsemane Mausoleum, Muhlenberg Township.
