Salvatore "Toto" Franco Sr., 76, of Wyomissing passed away February 28, 2016 in the Reading Hospital.
He was the beloved husband of Marcella P. Franco, who died October 9, 1999 and celebrated 30 years of marriage.
Born in Santo Stefano Di Camastra, Sicily, Italy, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Antonina (Gerbino) Franco.
At the age of 10 Salvatore began his career as a tailor.He worked in Sicily for 12 years, during this time he made custom tailored suits throughout Europe and earned a specialized degree from Scuola "Ruggeri" Di Milano. Ultimately, Sal and his wife Marcella settled in Reading, PA in 1970. Salvatore was employed by Vicary's Men's Shop for 24 years and then Boscov's Department Store from 1994 to present day. Sal loved his work and enjoyed the interaction with all his co-workers and customers.
Salvatore served in the Italian Army, and he was a devout catholic and a member of Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church.
As a boy, he loved to play soccer and as he grew older his passion continued for the sport as he very much enjoyed watching FIFA soccer on TV. He also enjoyed playing cards with friends, boccie ball, and in the later part of his life enjoyed traveling, but Sal's true love in life was spending time with his children, and grandchildren. He was known as a kind and gregarious individual, always being the life of the party, and making sure everyone around him was happy.
He is survived by his children, Salvatore Jr., husband of Lori A. Franco, Sinking Spring and Benedetto, husband of Kirsten S. Franco, Shillington. He is also survived by his 3 grandchildren, Taylor Saleen Franco, Cassidy Ann Franco, and Gianna Marcella Franco and dear friend, Rosa Lisa.
Salvatore was predeceased by his siblings Tommaso Franco, Giovanni Franco, and Antonino Franco.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, March 4, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church, with entombment at Gethsemane Mausoleum. Viewing will be from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., with family reflections beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc. 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading, PA 19611.
