Salvatore "Sam" Ciatto, 79, died December 26, 2009 in his Muhlenberg Township residence.
He was the husband of Louise T. (Pinti) Ciatto.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Filippo, Sr. and Verna (Caltaliano) Ciatto.
Sam was employed for 38 years as a bricklayer, working for Frank Ferrara, Inc., Wyomissing until his retirement in 1992.
He was a member of Green Valley Country Club.
Sam was a talented woodworker.
He was a member of Holy Rosary R.C. Church, Reading, where he was an usher. His faith helped him in his courageous battle against cancer.
Sam was a U.S. Army veteran. He served as a Staff Sergeant in Korea, where he earned a Bronze Star.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters: Donna M., wife of Edward S. Kowal, Wyomissing and Tricia A., wife of Bob Franz, San Francisco, CA. Also surviving is his two brothers: Joseph Ciatto, Wyomissing and Rosario Ciatto, Blandon. His three grandchildren: Kristy Kowal, Keith Kowal and Terin Franz also survive him. He always enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and was very supportive of them.
He was predeceased by his brother Philip Ciatto, Jr., in 2006.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in Holy Rosary R.C. Church. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. Contributions may be made to either Holy Rosary R.C.
