S. Eleanor Brown, 90, formerly of Crestwood, died October 28, 2008 in Reading Hospital, where she had been a patient for two days. She had been taken there from Berkshire Commons, Exeter Township, where she had resided for five years.
She was married to the late H. Roger Brown, who died November 10, 1984.
Born December 16, 1917 in Schaefferstown, Lebanon County, she was a daughter of the late Willard R. and Bertha E. (Jones) Ramsay.
Eleanor was a 1935 graduate of Mt. Penn High School, a 1939 graduate of Albright College and a Temple University Graduate.
She was first employed by Metropolitan Edison Company as a Home Economist, then as a teacher and cafeteria manager at Jacksonwald School, Exeter.
Eleanor was also employed by Mt. Penn School District as a cafeteria manager. She then went on to work as a Home Economics teacher for Twin Valley High School from 1958-1963 and Mt. Penn High School, in the same capacity, from 1963-1979, retiring in June, 1979.
She was a member of Pennside Presbyterian Church, Mt. Penn, where she was active in the church choir.
Eleanor was a member of TWEAD (Twin Valley, Exeter, Antietam, and Daniel Boone) teacher's association as well as the Berks County Home Economics Association.
Surviving are three children: James R., husband of Susan (Evans) Brown of Exeter Township, Nancy E. (Brown), wife of E. Stewart Degler of Muhlenberg Township and Janet L. (Brown), wife of James H. Greth of Exeter Township.
In addition there are eight grandchildren, one step-granddaughter and twelve great grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 12 p.m. in Pennside Presbyterian Church, 253 N. 25th St., Reading, PA 19606. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services in the church. Burial will be in Forest Hills, Exeter Township.
