Ruth E. Myers

Ruth E. Myers, 85, passed away on November 4, 2015, in Lancaster.

Born in Layton, PA, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Harry and Melinda (Brand) Miller.

Her husband, Rev. Stacy D. Myers Jr., passed away on April 1, 2006.

Ruth was a 1948 graduate of Punxsutawney High School and a 1953 graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan where she earned her degree in chemistry, and later attended Thomas Jefferson College for medical technology.

After a successful career in medicine, she married Rev. Stacy D. Myers Jr. at Arch Street United Methodist Church in Philadelphia. They worked together at Berwyn United Methodist Church, Jenkintown, Temple United Methodist Church, and lastly West Lawn United Methodist Church. She was an important figure in each of these communities organizing events and Bible study groups, and attending to families in need.

She is survived by her children: Stacy D. III, husband of Silvia Myers, Boca Raton, FL; Paul C., husband of Becca Myers, Dexter, ME; Cheryl M., wife of Scott Johnson, Richmond, VA; and Mary M., wife of Kenneth Mason; Lititz. Also surviving is a brother, Charles, husband of Marion Miller, Somerset; daughter-in-law, Elaine Hutchins, Boca Raton, FL; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday, November 12, 2015, at 11 a.m. in West Lawn United Methodist Church, 15 Woodside Ave, Reading, PA 19609. A viewing will be held from 10-11 a.m. in the church. Burial will be in Boehm's United Methodist Church, Willow Street. PA. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to West Virginia Wesleyan, 59 College Ave, Buckhannon, WV 26201 or to United Methodist Church General Board of Global Ministry, 100 Maryland Ave N.E. #315, Washington, D.C. 20002.
