Ruth L. Johnson

Ruth L. "Ruthie" Johnson, 97, passed away on Wednesday January 31, 2024, at Manor at Market Square.

Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late James P. and Louise L. (Wigenton) Jackson.

Ruth graduated from Reading High School in 1944.

She went on to work at the Reading Tannery, then later at Western Electric. She advanced to a supervisory position on the revolutionary fiber optic line.

Ruth was a member of Bethel AME Church where she participated in the Senior Choir.

Ruth is survived by her children, Judy A. Lee of Atlanta, GA and Richard V. Johnson of Las Vegas, NV; sister Shirley, Harrisburg; her 12 grandchildren: Darren (Latrise), LaCinya, Christina, Sundiata (Shera), Seth (Jennifer), Klover, Spring, Tirzah (Reginald), Jedidiah (Monique), Alex, Tyler, Justin, and many great and great-great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her siblings: Calloway, Mary, Ada, James, Jr., Ella, Harold, Maurice, David, and Janet.

There will be a viewing on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, from 10 to 11 a.m. with services at 11 a.m. at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc. West Reading.
