Ruth G. Harbach

Ruth G. Harbach, 92, formerly of West Wyomissing, died on February 22, 2010, in Salem, Va. where she resided since 2004.

She was born in Reading on December 26, 1917, the daughter of Samuel Paul and Elda Fegely Machmer. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Vincent H. Harbach and her brother, Donald A. Machmer of Reading.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy J. Harbach of Salem, Va., and a son, David V. Harbach of Detroit, Michigan; a daughter-in-law Charlotte; two grandchildren, David Harbach II of Va; a granddaughter, Melissa Harbach-Chahoc, of N.C.; a great granddaughter, Grace Harbach of Va.; a cousin, Russell "Skip" Fegely of Pa.; a niece, Judith Machmer Steffe, of Md.; a cousin through marriage, Harry Schalck, of Pa.; and a God-child, Kelly Laughton of N.C.

Ruth was a lifelong member of Christ Episcopal Church, Reading, where she shared her gifts so generously and graciously, most notably as Director of the Altar Guild for seven years.

Ruth was employed in the classified advertising department of the Reading Eagle Times for 15 years, before retiring to her cherished role of homemaker.

Her family and friends will cherish the memory of her poise, graciousness and devotion to her family.

The family is grateful for the care, kindness and dignity shown to Ruth by the staff of Snyder Nursing Home, Salem, Va., where she was a resident for the past 15 months.

A celebration of her life will be held in Christ Episcopal Church, Reading on Saturday, February 27th at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in Laureldale Cemetery. Edward J.
