Ruth Elizabeth (Kantner) Hanley, 88 of Laureldale Borough, died November 24, 2009 in ManorCare Health Services, Muhlenberg Township, where she had been a patient since May.
She was married August 15, 1942 to Robert Pershing Hanley, who died August 16, 1981.
Born in her Shillington residence on July 22, 1921, she was a daughter of the late James and Bessie Mae (Krick) Kantner.
She was a 1939 graduate of Muhlenberg High School.
Ruth was employed 12 years in the cafeteria with Muhlenberg High School.
She was last employed 13 years with Schoeneman Beauty Supplies, before retiring in June of 2008.
Ruth is survived by three children: Robert D. Hanley of Muhlenberg Township; Kevin T. Hanley of Laureldale and Dolores M. (Hanley), wife of John H. Kahn of Laureldale.
Other survivors include four siblings: Homer Kanter; Doris Hoffman; James Kantner and Norma Wilson.
There are also eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Jerold Lewis Hanley, who died June 18, 2007.
Ruth was also predeceased by two siblings: Jane Fix and Pat Brossman.
Services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 am in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, with the Rev. Grant A. Wickert officiating. Viewings will be held Tuesday evening 6:30 - 8:00 pm and Wednesday 9:30 - 10:00 am in the funeral home. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
