Ruth E. Gross, 73, of West Lawn, died February 20th at 2:58 a.m. in the Reading Hospital where she had been a patient since February 17th.

She was the wife of Clair E. Gross of West Lawn.

Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Oren A. and Mabel (Diener) Angstadt.

She was a teacher/musician for the Air Force Base in Misawa, Japan for 2 years. Later she was employed by Mt. Penn School District as a music teacher for 4 years. Later she was a music teacher for the Reading School District for 21 years until her retirement in 1989.

Gross graduated from Mt. Penn High School in 1950, and graduated from West Chester State College in 1954.

Gross was an accompanist pianist. She was a past assistant director and accompanist for the Reading Choral Society for 28 years. Gross was also a Past President of the Reading Symphony Orchestra Women's Committee. Gross was a member of the Reading Musical Foundation, and a past member of the Reading Symphony Board. She was also a past organist for Advent Lutheran Church, West Lawn. Gross was the past- coordinator of the Reading Symphony Youth Concerts. She performed with Genesius Theatre.

She is survived by two sons, Michael L. Keeney of Fleetwood and Robert B. Keeney of Wyomissing. Other survivors include one brother Russell L. Angstadt of Wyomissing and one sister Shirley (Angstadt) Chapman of Jamesburg, NJ. Other survivors include 3 grandchildren. She was predeceased by one grandchild.

Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also call Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Reading Choral Society 201 Washington Street Reading, PA 19601, or Reading Symphony Orchestra 147 N. 5th Street Reading, PA 19601. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading, is in charge of the arrangements.
