Russell P. Rothenberger, 71, of Spring Township, passed away November 4, 2014 in Kindred Transitional Care, Wyomissing, surrounded by his loving family.
He was the husband of Eileen (Young) Rothenberger, whom he married on May 24, 1987.
Born June 18, 1943 in Reading, he was a son of the late Paul P. and Mary A. (Gerhart) Rothenberger.
He was a 1961 graduate of Wilson High School.
Russ' love and passion was drumming. From 1961 to 1965 he was a percussionist with the U.S. Navy band; from 1965 to 1970 he played drums with the bands at various beach resorts on the east coast; and from 1970 to 1972 he attended Berklee School of Music, Boston, MA.
In 1973 he began his career in construction, working as a carpenter, an estimator, and project manager, until his retirement.
Russ was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola R.C. Church, Whitfield, where he served as a Special Minister of the Eucharist.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters: Julie, wife of Dragan Draskovic, Encinitas, CA, and their children: Alex, Luka, and Ana; and Sherri, wife of Chet McCullen, San Diego, and their son, Russell Kai.
He is also survived by four step-children and their families: Sheryl, wife of James Moss, Pottstown; Michael, husband of Jennifer Lyons, Ephrata, and their children: Christopher and Stephanie; Richard, husband of Elizabeth Lyons, Ephrata, and their children: Robert and Brynn; and Jeffrey, husband of Cynthia Lyons, New Holland, and their children: Cara and Eric.
Russ is also survived by a nephew, Mark, husband of Kathleen Rothenberger, Mountville.
He was predeceased by his brother, Franklin G. Rothenberger.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Ignatius Loyola R.C. Church, 2810 St Albans Dr, Sinking Spring, PA 19608. A viewing will be held Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 to 10 a.m., both in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. Burial will be private in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Ignatius Loyola R.C. Church at the above address.
